Digiera LPS2000M Review: Portable magnetic SSD for iPhone 15 Pro
Many content creators now record with their smartphones. Apple’s iPhone range in particular delivers impressive image quality in the video segment thanks to excellent stabilization and ProRes HDR. However, smartphone memory fills up faster than you’d like, especially with 4K HDR recordings. If you want to avoid this problem, the Digiera LPS2000M is a practical external SSD. Thanks to the magnetic holder, the storage solution can be attached to the back of the smartphone using MagSafe and allows direct recording of 4K/60 ProRes videos. Our test reveals more.
At first glance, the Digiera LPS2000M doesn’t look like an external SSD at all. The round housing is pleasantly compact and measures just 58 mm x 11.8 mm. With a weight of around 46 grams.
The Digiera lettering can be found on the white top, which also features a white backlight as soon as the external SSD is supplied with power. The flat lid merges into a silver-colored ring with the USB-C port at the bottom.
Alternatively, the external SSD is also available in black, gray or pink in addition to the white color scheme, if that appeals to you more. However, I think the white version looks really classy and appealing.
On the underside of the LPS2000M you will find the magnets with which the storage solution can be attached to the back of iPhone devices, but also to PCs and other metallic surfaces.
And it’s really strong. Strong enough to be attached to the iPhone 15 Pro despite my thick protective case. But even if the case is too thick, Dirigera has made provisions: the manufacturer includes a magnetic ring sticker in the scope of delivery. This is simply attached to the smartphone or the case using 3M adhesive strips and the LPS2000M sits bombproof.
The Digiera LPS2000M is available in capacities of 512 GB, 1 terabyte or 2 terabytes and uses a USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface. The external SSD achieves speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s for sequential reading and 1,800 MB/s for writing.
The setup is incredibly easy: Simply connect the external SSD to the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro using the included cable and the storage solution will be displayed as an external storage medium in the “Files” section. Now you have the option of renaming the storage device or displaying further information with just one click.
Now you just need to activate ProRes recording in the smartphone’s camera settings and then switch to ProRes HDR under the video settings in the camera app. A note on “USB-C” at the bottom then reveals that recordings are saved directly to the Digiera LPS2000M.
Of course, this has the enormous advantage that you can then transfer the recordings together with the external SSD to your PC or laptop particularly quickly and easily. Without having to go via cloud solutions or connect the iPhone via cable.
Very practical, also as a backup solution. Especially as the Digiera LPS2000M can of course not only be used with the iPhone, but also functions as a normal external SSD on PCs, notebooks and other smartphones.
Dirigera advertises the LPS2000M with a sequential read speed of up to 2,000 MB/s and a write speed of 1,800 MB/s. This makes the external SSD (at least on paper), on a PC or notebook with a suitable USB-C port, about as fast as the Crucial X10 Pro (our test), which is also in roughly the same price range.
The benchmark tests show that the Digiera LPS2000M can really deliver the targeted speed. In CrystalDiskMark, the storage solution achieves 2,137.49 MB/s read and 1,891.79 MB/s write.
In the AS-SSD benchmark, the values are somewhat lower, but here too the SSD scratches the manufacturer’s specifications with 1,972.87 MB/s and 1,648.16 MB/s. Fortunately, the storage can also maintain its performance permanently: Even with a file size of 10 gigabytes, there are no significant performance losses.
Another plus point: The 4K write rate of the external SSD is at a very good level, but the LPS2000M lags behind corresponding counterparts such as the WD Black P40 Game Drive (our test) in terms of 4K-64Thrd performance.
And that’s important, because just 15 seconds of ProRes HDR recordings in 4K/60 from the iPhone 15 Pro take up around 1.2 gigabytes of memory. It’s nice to see that there is no loss of performance even with longer films (73 minutes of video material fit on the 1 TB storage in 4K/60).
Even during long recordings, the SSD does not heat up excessively. The housing does get noticeably warm, but not so hot that performance would drop. The LPS2000M also has the heat development well under control.
Content creators in particular benefit from the possibilities of the Digiera LPS2000M, which conveniently attaches directly to the back of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series thanks to a magnet, even when the smartphone is protected by a thick case.
The external SSD is pleasantly compact and lightweight so as not to impair the feel in the hand. There is not much to complain about in terms of performance either: The storage solution achieves the advertised 2,000 MB/s / 1,800 MB/s at a corresponding port and fortunately maintains this consistently.
The LPS2000M has almost no points of criticism. Sure: The 4K-64Thrd performance is somewhat low, but this should only bother those who want to play large games directly from the memory. Only the price is a little high. If you’re “only” looking for an external SSD with comparable speeds, you’ll find it a little cheaper from the competition.
However, the magnetic mount on the iPhone (or other surfaces) is an exciting unique selling point that makes the Digiera LPS2000M an interesting and convincing choice, especially for content creators.
Compact and high-quality external SSD, which is particularly suitable for Content Creator including iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 and is magnetically attached.
